We recommend having at least $1,500 USD to cover personal costs and provide a safety buffer before your first salary payment.
Do I need a criminal background check?

No, there is currently no criminal record check required for the TEFL Mexico internship program.
Can I bring my pet?

Yes, you may bring a well-behaved pet! However, most hotels and apartments do not accept pets, so you would likely need to rent a house rather than an apartment.
What is the training schedule?

Training runs for 4 weeks in-person, typically from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. It includes teaching skills, lesson prep, and observed teaching practice with real students.
Where will my job placement be?

Placements are nationwide! Major locations include Guadalajara, Morelia, Nayarit, Mexico City, Queretaro, Tampico, and Veracruz. Southern options include Merida, Oaxaca, and San Luis Potosí.
What kind of visa do I need?

You enter on a tourist visa (which you obtain independently). Once your work contract is signed, it is converted to a work visa with our support.
Do I need to speak Spanish?

No, Spanish is not necessary. However, we include 1 week of professional Spanish classes in your program to help you learn the basics and connect with locals.
Can I be placed with a friend/partner?

Yes! Friends and couples are welcome. Flexibility on location is key, but we can usually place you in the same school or at least the same area.
What types of schools will I teach in?

Most placements are at private language training centers (adults and young learners). Some positions may be in public schools or corporate training programs.
How long is the contract?

Standard job placements are 12 months. Shorter durations (6 months) are sometimes available upon request.
Is there an age limit?

Applicants must be at least 21 years old (though mature 18-20 year olds may be considered). There is no upper age limit, and mature teachers are often preferred.
Is medical insurance included?

No, medical insurance is not included. You must procure your own medical insurance coverage for your time in Mexico.
